EA stumped by job losses
EA is well known for producing games like there's no tommorow, especially after a record number of (rather good I might add) titles for the 360 in 2008. Yet recent news tells us that EA is to cut some 1100-1200 jobs worldwide and across all departments - which is a relatively large percentage of their total workforce. This may have a major effect on the development of many 2009 titles and will most likely result in poorer quality games and/or less games available overall.
So are there any possible solutions to this problem? Many are now questioning the ability of John Riccitiello, the big-cheese at Electronic Arts, to carry the company through the economy crisis and the recession - without having to make sacrifices for the quality of EA Games.
Lets hope those directors can develop a plan to help EA survive throughout the economic downturn and maintain the flow of Xbox360 releases throughout the year.

Left 4 Dead DLC Info
Chet Faliszek, writer/creator of popular online 360 multiplayer Left 4 Dead has released some juicy details about an upcoming DLC to include new maps, new bosses and a rumoured.. FLAMETHROWER!! Yep, can you just imagine the sheer scale of riot to be caused with such a weapon? One of the maps is said to be a remake of a popular Resident Evil 4 map and that fans of the franchise will immediately recognise and familiarise themselves with the 'new' surrounding to inflict massacre on the hordes of zombies.
Originally set for release on November 18, the DLC was delayed due to Valve intending to release versions for the PC and Xbox360 on the same date.
We'll just have to sit tight for what seems like some explosive new content.

FEAR 2 Demo is TERRIFYING!
I'm not the guy that usually jumps and squeals to so called horror games or movies but after playing the FEAR 2 demo last weekend, I have definetly developed an exception the the rule. The demo has you crash land into an abandoned ( and extremely creepy ) city, where you will be tasked with relocating isolated squad members. As you fight through the demo you will be met with cinematic like settings and sinister sound effects that will make you wish you went to the bathroom before you began the demo. And there is this cruel paranormal menace of a little girl who will make your playing experience a living hell from start to finish.
Oh and whenever you expect the least, be prepared.
Fans of the Call Of Duty series will find adapting to the game quite easy as there are many similarities in each game in terms of control layout.
What makes FEAR so unique in my opinion is that it maintains a very fine balance of the horror/shooter genre which so many games strive.. and fail to achieve.
Download the demo on the XBL marketplace now for an epic singleplayer experience.

Resident Evil 5 Demo
Lets be honest- the idea of the Resident Evil franchise coming to 360 for the first time is orgasm-inducing. I was very excited for the release of the demo and couldn't wait to give it a try.
However, I was more disappointed than happy with the demo gameplay. It just lacks and lacks in several areas. Firstly - and I swear I am not just nit-picking here - the aim-shoot-reload process. 1) You cannot move and shoot - something very useful considering you are constantly being hunted down by chainsaw wielding, blood thirsty angry mutants. 2) The controls are very, very tacky. If you play popular shooters like Gears or CoD you will find it very hard to adjust to these controls. 3) You will go through ammo like a fat man through half-price donuts. This will also serve you very well in the game considering you and your partner are outnumbered zombie*:survivor in a ratio of about 346872:1
Secondly, the process of looking about, scanning surroundings and looking for your next mission point will take you a unnecessary length of time. You will find it difficult in situations wherein you are surrounded by dozens of zombies and have to dodge your way around blade swings and lunges.
It just seems like this game is too rushed. It tries to recreate elements of Left 4 Dead and Dead Rising - but the Resident Evil franchise is neither of these games. There is nothing unique to this game, and the japanese-arcadey feel to it just amplifies its poor qualities instead of helping it be the intense horror game it should be.
At the start of the year, I just had it in my mind I would buy this game. The demo made me think otherwise.
The RE5 demo is available on XBL marketplace for download now.
* Are these things really zombies? Does someone with the ability to talk through a loudspeaker and rally a crowd constitute 'zombies'?

Left 4 Dead Achievement Tips
CrownD and Witch Hunter achievements (50Gs) : This requires you to kill a witch in a single shot and not taking any damage. This may seem like a daunting task - but can be done quite easily. Simply, equip the automatic shotgun and locate an area with a witch (You will want to do this on normal difficuly as they rarely spawn on easy) Once you've cleared the area of zombies quitely approach the witch - flashlights off and crouching - and preferrably from behind. Have the target reticule rest on her head. If you are within a close enough distance to her (less than 2ft) she will start to stand up. As soon as this animation completes, fire one shot to her head. And kaboom - 50GS.
Helping Hand (20Gs): Reviving 50 incapacitated survivors might take some while especially when 1)- You are a high risk of dying yourself while carrying out the revive and 2) - You will be competing with 2 other survivors to carry out the revive first. So here is a mini guide to getting the achievement - very, very easily. Load up a campaign on Expert and grab a weapon. Quickly down all four survivors and revive one. When that survivor gets back up, incap and revive them again, before finally killing them. Carry out the same process for the other 3 survivors making sure you incap/revive/kill one at a time (as they will revive each other before you do) After several reloads of the campaign (completing this process each time); you will get the achievement.
Man vs Tank (30Gs) - Load up the last chapter of the Death Toll campaign on Expert. Clear the immediate surroundings (making sure you have enough health to continue) Before you continue down the street and through the house into the grassy area (where the tank will meet you) -kill all other survivors. Make sure you have dispatched of all special infected first as this will cause you problems later on. Switch the difficulty to normal and continue westwards after you come out the garage - up the street and through the house. Grab the pain pills in the house. Upon entering the grassy area a tank should spawn. While keeping a safe distance from it - strafe around it using the whole open area firing shots at its head. You will take a few hits - be sure to use your pain pills. Soon the tank will die and you will be 30GS richer. Fallout 3 DLC: Operation Anchorage
Fallout 3 is by far one of the most intense single player RPGs I've ever played. Namely because the storyline is immensely detailed and the visuals are stunning. However I thought the ending was rather- well, not exactly poor but more kind of.. unsatisfying. The build up to the finale was epic, and I was glued to the whole storyline from start to finish. After finishing the majority of the side quests I had nothing left to do but walk aimlessly about the DC Wastlelands for the very few locations I had not discovered yet. I gradually began to lose interest in Fallout.
Thankfully, Bethesda Games have concocted a remedy for my troubles. A shiny new mission that goes back in time as part of virtual reality simulation which allows you to fight in the war between America and the Chinese Forces. Operation Anchorage is intense - presenting new weapons, better armor and very tasty new environment to do battle. And its available for download now at the XBL Marketplace for a mere 800MSP - offering a further 100gamerscore for the game.
Upon downloading the DLC you will discover a new radio signal that will lead you to an area where a large group of Brotherhood Outcasts are carrying out a project to secure an arsenal of guns'n'ammo from a secure armory locked underground. On arrival you will be asked to enter a VR simulation in order to unlock the armory. Upon entering the simulation you will be thrown into the deep end and greeted by a war-torn environment that requires your help to destroy the invading Chinese forces.
However, when you do enter the simulation -be sure to make the most of the environment -because you won't be going back in there once you're done.
